Kalloni – Antissa – Sigri – Eresos – Mesotopos

The route starts from the road junction of Kalloni. This time we head northwest through the northern exit of Kalloni. First we meet the mountainous settlement “Dafia” and a little further up, climbing the stone ridge to the east, the Monastery of Limonos.

Continuing our ascent on this rocky outcrop, we meet the first settlement of the area, Filia, while to the north the road leads to the mountainous settlement “Skoutaro” and to the south to the mountainous settlement “Anemotia”. From there the road continues towards Skalochori, while another small road to the south leads us to the sea at “Kalo Limani” and its small beach.

Returning again to Skalochori and continuing our way to the west we come across the Monastery of Paroikia, a small paradise of greenery and water in complete contrast to the harshness of the rest of the place.

Continuing again on the main artery, our road passes the mountain village of Vatousa and ends up in Antissa, a small town with strong elements of lesbian tradition.

The nearby coastal areas with access from the wider area of Addissa to the north are Gavatas, Kampos and further east the coastal Lapsarna. At the exit of Addissa the main road branches east to end at Sigri or south to end at the Eressos area.

Following the eastern fork, we meet for the first time the Monastery of Ypsilos, built on the top of the mountain “Hordimnos”.

Halfway along the route, the road to the east leads us to the world-famous Petrified Forest, one of the oldest nature museums and a site of world interest.

In the area there is also the state-of-the-art Natural History Museum of the Petrified Forest of Lesvos as well as an organized open-air Geological Park.

The further road leads to Sigri, a picturesque fishermen’s settlement. Opposite Sigri is the picturesque island of Nisiopi, while the intermediate underwater area is dotted with fossils. Returning again to the main junction, we choose this time the road to the south.

Being close to the area of Eressos, we meet the Monastery of Pythari, while continuing downhill we meet the small town of Eressos.

Three kilometres further south we reach Skala Eressos, an important holiday resort of the island. Continuing east from Skala Eressos, the road leads us to the mountainous village of “Mesotopos”, while a secondary road to the south leads us to the bay of Tavari.
